The people of Herat now have access to a fresh, new voice with the launch of an independent talk radio station, Radio Killid.
Afghan owned and operated independent media company The Killid Group (TKG) extends the reach of its two year old Kabul based talk radio station, Radio Killid Kabul, to Herat with the opening of a new station in this dynamic city in western Afghanistan.
Launched to correspond with National Independence Day celebrations on the 19th, Governor Said Hussein Anwari provided a live broadcast welcoming Radio Killid to Herat. The Governor’s welcoming remarks were followed by the station’s first news bulletin by a twenty one year old Herati woman, Najiba Azizi.
Like its sister station in Kabul, Radio Killid Herat is being transmitted on a frequency of FM 88 round the clock and is reaching over two million people with a range of music, news, cultural and educational programming. Both stations are committed to being a voice of moderation in Afghanistan, providing the public with an independent, reliable, and relevant source of information and entertainment.
Radio Killid Herat is a purely commercial and independent initiative of TKG, having been established by the company without any international donor assistance.
In addition to its two radio stations, TKG is also the publisher of Afghanistan’s most widely circulated publications, Killid Magazine (general interest and news) and Mursal Women’s Magazine and owner of Nye Express which distributes over hundred other independent titles and four governmental papers, bringing a diverse printed press to each corner of Afghanistan for the first time in the nation’s history.
